When it comes to taking care of your body at the Disney parks, it’s important to keep in mind what you wear. Not only does it affect your comfort, it also affects your body’s ability to regulate itself and stay healthy. Here are my top 3 tips for what to wear at Walt Disney world.

Comfort Comfort Comfort
First and foremost, you want to wear comfortable clothing to the parks. You’ll be spending your entire day (up to 14 hours) walking around Walt Disney World and you definitely don’t want to be caught in anything that is uncomfortable or doesn’t fit well.
Whatever clothes you choose, you definitely want to make sure that you can easily move around in them. The last thing you want is to barely be able to move when sitting down on an attraction or squat to sit down on Main Street to watch the parade. Just think how awkward it would be to get onto the Tron lightcycle in tight shorts… or what you might expose.
I have no idea if there’s a pants vs. shorts debate (comment below with your opinion!), but what you wear will depend on what the expected weather is. If you find yourself comfortable wearing pants in 90 degree humid heat, more power to you!
Whether or not you prefer pants or shorts, I highly recommend avoiding denim material altogether, especially in the warmer months. You do not want to get caught in the rain or get soaked on a ride while wearing denim. Besides, it smells when it gets wet. If you prefer pants, consider performance pants from brands like Lululemon, Under Armour, and Nike. Need something more wallet-friendly? Check out 32 Degrees or Amazon Essentials!
Another reason to ditch tighter fitting clothing? A combination of tight-fitting clothing and the Central Florida heat increases your risk of chafing. And that’s just no fun. Of course, Body Glide or Friction Defense is your best friend for when the inevitable happens.
Along the same lines, be careful of wearing clothes that expose more skin, like tank tops and short shorts. While they might look super cute for photos, long exposure to the sun increases your risk of sunburn!
Breathable, Moisture-Wicking Shirt, Socks, and Underwear
For a more comfortable time in the Central Florida heat, you want to ditch the cotton shirts and opt for shirts that are breathable and moisture wicking. They allow you to stay cool on long hot days and they dry quickly. The last thing you want is to stay completely soaked after getting off a water ride or stay drenched in your sweat when walking into an indoor ride. Brands like Under Armour, Columbia, and Ex Officio offer stylish options without breaking the bank.

For those wanting to wear a dress into the parks, there are more and more dress options with moisture wicking material (in fact, I’m seeing a lot more female guests wear outfits that resemble tennis or golf outfits). Check out dresses from brands like Lululemon, Athleta, Gap, and Outdoor Voices. Add a pair of biker shorts under, and you’ve got a solid outfit for the heat!
Don’t skimp out on your underwear and socks either! You must address one of the most crucial areas to stay comfortable. Brands like Under Armour and Ex Officio offer great moisture-wicking underwear options. For socks, I prefer for Swiftwick and DeFeet. As a former competitive cyclist, these socks have done wonders for me on my 8 hour bike rides.
HEY LADIES! THIS ONE’S FOR YOU: There seems to be conflicting advice as to what underwear material to choose. After doing some research, I’ve found that there’s not enough data to conclude that cotton is better than synthetics when it comes to keeping yourself healthy down there. When it comes down to it, you know your body way more than I do. So, wear what you find more comfortable and keeps you dry!
Hat and Sunglasses
In the Central Florida heat, these are a must. Hats protect your eyes, face, and scalp from the sun to prevent sunburns. Sunglasses with UV protection add a cherry on top to protect your eyes.
When picking out a hat, consider a bucket hat over a typical baseball cap since bucket hats also cover your neck – an extremely common area to get sun burnt! For the same reasons to wear a breathable shirt, consider a hat with moisture-wicking material instead of the typical cotton hat.
Note: Choose a hat that that you can easily pack away. You’ll constantly be taking it off and putting it back on whenever you ride any thrill attraction.
Final Thoughts
While there are a ton of options for outfits out there, the main ideas are the following: You want to be comfortable and ready for the weather. With that being said, make sure to test out any new clothing you purchase for your Disney trips. The last thing you want is to be excited about your new outfit only to find out that you’ve developed rashes or chafing during hour 4 of your 12 hour park day!
